Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an experienced Dispatcher for our Fleet based out of Columbia, SC. This position will be responsible for coordinating the transport of freight and dictate the pickup time, delivery time and any special requirements for a load to company drivers. The dispatcher is also responsible for providing superior customer services and making sure that all CMC assets and dedicated carriers of CMC are properly utilized.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Determines safe and most efficient routing and method of transportation.
Controls scheduling of shipments by notifying departments or customers of arrival/pickup dates.
Provides information by answering questions and requests.
Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
Maintains interdepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
Available for drivers via cell phone to assist with maintenance issues after hours.
Dispatcher communicates with truck drivers through computer software (People Net), cell phones or two way radios.
Receives calls from customers for dispatching.
Dispatches trucks using most efficient routes.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Safety – Works with the fleet manager in putting together safety meeting information (PowerPoint) and communicating times of such meeting to drivers as well as presenting the information during the safety meeting.
Safety- Driver ORO cards maintained monthly, Log violations signed, Driver Physicals up to date and any compliance needs provided by our safety department.
Peoplenet (Electronic logging device) – Assist the region in all faucets of ELD implementation and daily maintenance to include PowerPoints, Driver Profiles, Truck Settings, Log Edits and Miles without Hours reports.
Experience and Skill Requirements
Experience in transportation is a plus (brokerage, dispatching, SAP or management in trucking). The candidate must also have DOT experience and knowledge of basic rules and regulations that deal with over the road assets.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor or Associate degree preferred.
Strong customer service skills required
Computer proficiency required (Microsoft software, PC Miler, Excel, etc.)
Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Must demonstrate a strong safety focus.
Ability to demonstrate a genuine care and concern for employees and customers.
High School Diploma or GED required.
